Professional teeth whitening supervised by Dr. Jamie Alexander in our Boynton Beach dental office will safely lighten the color of your teeth and give you a younger appearing, more confident smile.
Is Professional Teeth Whitening Best for You?
Depending on your objectives, Dr. Alexander recommends one of two methods. The first method is a one-session, in-office professional teeth whitening procedure that takes about an hour. The second method is a less expensive at-home procedure that involves wearing lightweight bleaching trays (one upper and one lower) that are custom made to fit over your teeth. We provide you a bleaching gel and educate you how to apply it to the inside of the trays. Our office also provides detailed written instructions on how long to wear the trays each day and for how many days (often 1 to 2 weeks).
We exclusively use Ultradent’s Opalescence Products for both our in-office and at-home treatments.
Successful results can be achieved with either method; however, many patients are attracted to the immediacy of our in-office system. With either option, you can take advantage of our White for Life program!
What if your teeth are sensitive?
If you have been reluctant to whiten your teeth because you have experienced tooth sensitivity but want a whiter, brighter smile, Dr. Alexander has a variety of methods to successfully manage cosmetic solutions for sensitive teeth, including composite bonding and veneers. Together you may also find a bleaching solution that works for you.
What if you have persistent discoloration?
If you have intrinsic discoloration inside a tooth or a stain that cannot be removed with professional teeth whitening, consult with Dr. Alexander about treatment options so all of your teeth will match your lighter, brighter shade. Composite bonding and porcelain are two options that are commonly used. They can be color matched to the color achieved on your other teeth. Today’s dental veneers require minimal prep, emulate natural tooth enamel for optimal appearance, and can last decades.
A question that we get routinely in our practice, whether it be when our patient’s getting their teeth cleaned when a visit with me for a dental procedure, or quite frankly when I’m out at a dinner party or having dinner with friends, is about teeth whitening. There’s three ways that I suggest our patients can consider getting their teeth whitening.
Number One is very easy, white strips you know you can get at the drugstore. They are effective. they can work very well, there’s just some reasons why we consider that not to be right for them. If a patient has tooth sensitivity, that may not be the right solution, or if they have gum problems, that may not be the right solution, but it is a very cost-effective and efficient way to whiten teeth.
Number two, we provide professional trays here in the practice that can be another very easy and cost-effective method to be able to whiten teeth. There is a little bit more work to do by still doing that at home, but is very effective in doing that and can also be used for patients who do have sensitive teeth.
Lastly, the way that we suggest patients can get their teeth whitened in our practice is to come in and have an in-office procedure done in order to white teeth. This is a little bit more involved and a little bit more costly, however highly effective.
What that does is our patients can come in and they leave in about two hours or less with a very white smile. We also provide trays to be able to touch up because inevitably, after debriding teeth, we always need to touch up here or there.
At a young age our teeth are healthy white. But overtime the enamel coating the tooth is so slowly worn down. Causing our teeth to become stained and yellow, which is why teeth whitening is become increasingly popular today. There are a few methods for whitening. They include at home and in office. With in office treatments, you will see faster results, receive the safest treatment for bleaching the teeth, and yield the whitest smile. So, don’t settle for teeth that have become stained from years of coffee drinking, tobacco use, or just aging. Ask your dentist about whitening options that may be right you.
Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening
What is the difference between in-office and at-home teeth whitening treatment?
In-office whitening is performed at the dental office and delivers fast results, often in one visit. We use professional-strength products under close supervision. At-home whitening involves custom trays and whitening gel used over several days. It works more gradually but still provides noticeable improvement.
Does teeth whitening work on all stains?
Whitening works best on surface stains caused by coffee, tea, wine, aging, and smoking. However, deep or intrinsic discoloration caused by trauma or developmental abnormalities may not respond to teeth whitening treatments. Dr. Alexander will evaluate your teeth and recommend the most effective option.
Can I whiten my dental veneers or crowns?
How long does teeth whitening last?
Results vary based on lifestyle and oral habits. Whitening can last several months to a few years. Good oral hygiene and consistent dental visits can help prolong the lifespan of your results.
Is teeth whitening painful?
Most patients experience little to no discomfort. Some may notice temporary sensitivity during or after treatment. This usually fades within a few days. Professional whitening is designed to minimize irritation and protect your enamel.
What are alternatives to teeth whitening?
As mentioned, teeth whitening doesn’t work on all stains. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t achieve the bright white smile you deserve. Dental bonding is one of the simplest alternatives to teeth whitening. It involves applying tooth-colored material to your teeth to enhance their appearance. Dental veneers are another option for achieving long-lasting, dramatic results. What if your tooth is stubbornly discolored? You’ll need a dental crown because it offers full tooth coverage. Our dentist will recommend the best solution tailored to your specific needs and preferences.
How do I care for my teeth after whitening to maintain the results?
Teeth whitening results won’t last forever, but the right habits can keep your smile shining for many years. Follow these simple steps to maintain your results.
- Brush and floss your teeth conscientiously
- Limit the intake of coffee, red wine, dark soda, and other staining foods
- Rinse or brush your teeth after meals
- Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings
- Touch up your results as needed with whitening trays
- Quit smoking or chewing tobacco
