After numbing your gums, your doctor makes a small incision on your gums and places a titanium screw into your jawbone. Your doctor then cleans and sutures the surgical site to begin the healing process
• Healing and fusion: After placing your implant, healing starts right away. Your implant may heal completely after a few weeks, but you need four to six months for the implant to bond permanently with the jawbone through osseointegration. During this period, you’ll visit your doctor to inspect your implant and ensure it’s healing as expected
• Abutment placement: Once healing and fusion occur, your oral surgeon will open up your gums and install an abutment, which connects your implant to your tooth prosthetic. During this appointment, we also take impressions of your mouth to craft your crown or other restoration
• Restoring your tooth: Finally, it’s time to restore your tooth with your bespoke restoration. After checking the fit and appearance of your crown, denture, or bridge, Dr. Alexander will permanently secure it to your implant
